Always Let A Sleeping Dog Lie

title or description

James heard nothing for a week. Finally Vittoria answered the phone.
“So what happened when you got home?”
“He almost killed me.” Her voice was subdued.
“How so?”
“He put his hands on my throat and pushed me against the wall.”
“Are you injured?”
“No. But he was so angry.”
“I’ll bet.”
“Then he left, and didn’t come back that night. He was gone for a couple of days.”
“Where did he go?”
“I don’t know. Probably his brother’s.”
“And then what?”
“He came back. Didn’t say anything.”
“Where is he now?”
“Out in the garden, with his tomato plants.”
“How did he find out about me?”
“Private detective.”
“Is he going to divorce you?”
“He says he will never let me go.”
“So does that mean it’s over between us?”
“Do you intend to see me again?”
“And that’s OK with Giancarlo?”
“He doesn’t like it. But what can he do?”
