I especially like the last one.
Your pictures make want to jump on a plane
and go back to New York.

I miss that place.

Well, you can take comfort from the fact that New York will be forever.

did he know you were photographing him?

i love the juxtaposition with the cigar store indian.

Over the years I've learned how to be very discreet, and wickedly clever so that they never have a clue.

will you share your cleverness? because I, when taking photos of people, feel as discreet as [insert comment about elephants in china shops here].

Glad to. For candid shots like this I use a Nikon CP5400 that has a little fold out LCD, and I make a big show of staring down at it, as if I'm trying to figure out how to make it work. After a while everyone in the place gets used to it, and stosp looking. I am turned to the side, the lens aimed at my subject. Then I slowly fire off a sequence, silently, with of course no flash. Ambient light is usually sufficient, and I keep the camera steady on my knee or on a table.

What a great series, I love it!
