Dream ON!

During my long walk on the deserted Spiaggia Cava del Isola this morning I had a vision: A literally perfect protest that causes a news media firestorm.

I can still see it: President Bush is giving his State of the Union speech before a joint session of congress, still another stuttering stream of mischaracterizations and lies. Like how swell things are going in Iraq. How he intends to do “anything” to protect the people of the US, like, uh…ordering secret wiretaps on citizens, even though it means subverting the separation of powers, judicial review, and congressional oversight.

In the middle of this manic blather, all the Democrats just stand up and quietly leave the chamber!

This mass exodus stuns the Republican fascists. What an outrage! On live TV the heads of the “fair and balanced” presenters on Fox News explode. Cut to Pat Robertson calling upon God to smite all those Democrat traitors.

Bush sputters, and blinks a few times, but then resumes his speech as if nothing has happened. Terrists. Nine eleven. Nine eleven. You gotta understand, folks, that we’re at WAR! Nine eleven. Nine eleven. Remember? We gotta stop all those terrists in Iraq who attacked us on nine eleven. Some people say that before nine eleven we shoulda connected the dots. Well, I’m here to tell you that I’m connectin’ the dots! And I won’t quit until I’m through. It ain’t over until it’s over. But it will take a while. See, this war is different! It’ll last forever! But we’ll stay the course until we get VICTORY!

Ah, well. This principled Democratic protest isn’t going to happen. But I can dream, can’t I?

It is good to dream.

"Some men dream things that are and ask why.
I dream things that aren't and ask why not."
~John F. Kennedy

If only the Dems were a cohesive group... something like that *could* happen.

The problem is in who is swallowing the bait that fishmonger Dubya is casting and who is in what pocket.

It's all to do with the "say it enough times and people will believe it" school.

The Democrats are cohesive.
The Democrats are cohesive.
The Democrats are cohesive.
The Democrats are cohesive.

The Fascists have succeeded precisely because they are a well-oiled machine. Every morning they go to their fax machines and get Karl Rove's talking points, which are written in short, clear declarative sentences. Every single Fascist politician in America recites those sentences when the reporters...er, stenographers from the Mainstream Media call or ask them to appear on their shows. The Democrats?

The Alito hearings were a joke. There was no cohesiveness among the Democrats, they blathered on all over the place.

Sometimes I can't believe what I'm seeing, honest to God.

That would be wonderful.

With my luck I will be miles away from a television
if that were to ever happen.

Re: That would be wonderful.

Oh, don't worry! If anything like a mass exodus from the State of the Union message occurs, well, it'll be headline news all over the place.

A dream I've had as well...but I'm pretty sure the Democrats lack the testicular matter to pull it off. They're like sad little abused spouses. :/

Brain dead wimps. Yes, abused spouses who can't leave their abusers. Why aren't the Democrats coming to the plate? Because nobody has any answers to Iraq. The place is falling apart, with a rising insurgency that may indeed lead to a civil war. Body counts are rising, both for US troops and Iraq civilians. December was the worst since the the war started three years ago. At the same time, news coverage has dropped. Why? Because Americans, not having been asked to make any sacrifices whatever, feel uncomfortable when they see this...uh, quagmire. Poor babies! The networks, sensing this, have turned to other topics. The whole thing is totally disgusting.

I would pay real money to see that.
And the dream of the Democrat protest is good as well.

To all the people who don't understand your dream:

"In visions of the dark night - I have dreamed of joy departed-
But a waking dream of life and light - Hath left me broken-hearted.
Ah! what is not a dream by day - To him whose eyes are cast
On things around him with a ray - Turned back upon the past?

That holy dream- that holy dream, While all the world were chiding,
Hath cheered me as a lovely beam - A lonely spirit guiding.

What though that light, thro' storm and night,
So trembled from afar- What could there be more purely bright
In Truth's day-star? "

Let us dream, please, this is one of the few things that let us to be completely free... at least for now.

That's what this administration has been doing, playing a big game of Connect The Dots. Karl Rove is handing out the pages.
