By the way....

. . . yesterday I encountered this spent fireworks apparatus. For eight years I’ve endured lengthy and deafening artillery barrages on every religious holiday here, and this marks the first time I’ve seen the source of my misery up close. Of course this is the low-powered family-friendly version. The real things are about four or five times as big.

Then on my usual hike back up the mountain I saw some evidence that winter’s grip is loosening just a bit. Tangerines on a tree, and the blooming of Yellow sorrel. When the little green speckled lizzards appear in a few weeks, the celebration may begin.
