 Bingo

A few days before Francesca sent me that e-mail about the old man’s alleged heart attack, we had this brief conversation:
“My dad said this morning that he hoped you could get Vittoria to come home soon.”
“You mean to say that he actually came out and spoke of me? I thought he preferred to believe I didn’t exist.”
“He’s going through hell right now, that’s all.”
“What makes him think I can do anything?”
“Guess.”
“Uh, let me see. Because Vittoria and I have been lovers for the past three or four years and she just might listen to what I have to say?”
“Bingo!”
