Last Throes of Winter

what is winter like where you live?

A lot of the time it's overcast, light rain, temperature in the 50s. Rarely ever goes below freezing. Once in ten years there may be a light snow, which appears up on the top of the volcano, but quickly melts.

Are you now entering your Winter season? Do you travel? Do you always stay on the island? How did you come to retire on this island?

No, winter is yielding to spring, and the best proof of it is the appearance of blooming yellow sorrel all over the place and also little green speckled lizzards that dart in and out of the green volcanic tuffa rocks. I divide my time between New York and here. And I am not retired, I continue to write and take photographs, and I'll do that as long as I have my wits about me.

From all the pictures you take of the island I thought you lived there all year long-what is the island called again? I have a poor memory.
If all those pictures you have posted is what it looks like in the Winter, Spring must be wonderful!
