Too Far Removed

This may be the portrait of a wealthy Roman who built a mansion in Pompeii. I wandered around his rooms and garden and fountain, now open to all, then moved onto another villa down the ancient street. You do this sort of thing in an altered state of consciousness, like being drunk or in a dream. The culture is too far removed in time and record to know for sure exactly what it was like. These wall paintings are only hints as to what these aristocrats felt and thought.
