Mulberry @ Canal. Two blocks from Five Points, totally gone now, but once the most notorious slum in the United States. Visited and described By Charles Dickens in 1842. Other notable residents and visitors: Jacob Riis, Theodore Roosevelt, Johnny Torrio, & Al Capone.

No wonder I got the chilly feeling there were ghosts floating around! We'd planned to also go to nearby Little Italy, but didn't because of the rain, so we felt no trace of Al.
