In February 1998 I did one of my last photo assignments with film—remember film?—before going fully digital. It was a performance by the New York-based Zhongmei Dance Company founded in 1992 by artistic director Zhongmei Li, at Moravian College’s Foy Concert Hall.
The various dances of the program combined the motifs of traditional Chinese choreography with Western elements in a fast-moving display of ribbons, mists, fans, sounding gongs, and the haunting sound of soldiers marching in the distance.
The best part of the whole thing is I didn’t have to give any thought to the lighting. The company’s professionals took care of it for me.
