Chester's Death Certificate
I saw the obit in the Youngstown Vindicator, but I needed confirmation. I had to be absolutely sure he was now six feet under and I'd never see or hear from him again. Now, I read somewhere that a a myocardial infarction means a heart attack, but in the instance of an 89-year-old, it simplly means his heart stopped beating because he died, not the other way around. Dead. Gone forever.

Brother? Cousin?

That awful finality, not quite believable.

It usually takes me a few years to notice they do hang around after all, in my head.

Nope, father. A drunken abuser. It's taken me decades to resolve the issues. At least most of them.

Ah. I completely misread your sparse post, then. I had a drunken, abusive stepmother. Them you DON'T want hanging around in your head. It has taken me, too, decades to resolve the issues - at least most of them. My brother, who is four years younger and got the worst of it, still can't.

People who were abused in childhood live in a world that's radically different from the one experienced by people who were NOT abused. For one thing, they smile more. And are way put off by those who don't join them in the great mirth of life.
