Happy Birthday, Sweetpea!
Do you remember when we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to see the reconstructed Egyptian Temple of Dendur? We sat and talked beside the reflecting pool near the massive sloping windows facing Central Park.
Later we went upstairs to see the Cezannes, Renoirs and Van Goghs. “You stopped at a huge canvass by Pierre Auguste Cott, a detailed representation of a beautiful young couple running through a forest, hurrying to escape an approaching storm. The handsome young man had his hand protectively around the waist of his girl. Later you did and said something that was deeply moving.”
“You looked around and got teary. You said, ‘This is the world I want to live in.’”
“You did. And I asked, ‘What’s to stop you?’ And then later we had lunch in the Met’s cafeteria.”
“What did I eat?”
“A grilled cheese sandwich.”
“Will you take me there again sometime?”
